The community of Sioux City is mourning the tragic loss of Julee Vermilye Zugel, who passed away following a car accident. Her sudden death has left family, friends, coworkers, and loved ones heartbroken as they remember a woman whose compassion, strength, and generosity touched countless lives.
Julee was widely respected in her professional career as Director of Strategic Sourcing at Wells Enterprises, home of the beloved Blue Bunny Ice Cream brand. Colleagues admired her not only for her leadership, intelligence, and dedication, but also for the kindness and encouragement she consistently extended to those around her. She was known as someone who led with both professionalism and heart, creating meaningful relationships throughout her career.
Originally connected to both Iowa and Michigan, Julee pursued higher education with determination and resilience. She studied Business Administration at Western Michigan University while working full time at Perrigo, reflecting the strong work ethic and perseverance that defined her throughout her life. She also attended Eastern Illinois University during her academic journey.
To her family, however, Julee was far more than her professional accomplishments. Loved ones describe her as the foundation and “rock” of the family — someone whose greatest joy came from caring for others and supporting the people she loved most. Her devotion to family, especially to her beloved grandson Zach, was evident in everything she did. Family and friends remember her thoughtful advice, daily conversations, joyful spirit, and unwavering support during life’s challenges.
Even in passing, Julee’s compassion continues to make a difference through her decision to become an organ donor, a final selfless act that will help improve and save the lives of others. Those who knew her continue to share heartfelt tributes describing her as a source of warmth, love, and strength whose absence leaves an irreplaceable void.
